The Antikythera mechanism is a hand-powered device recovered from a Roman-era shipwreck near the Greek island of Antikythera. Dated to roughly the second or first century BCE, it used complex bronze gears and inscriptions to model lunar and solar cycles, including eclipses. It is not a modern computer, but it is the earliest known surviving example of a sophisticated analog astronomical calculator.
